Moisturizing Dry Hair Masks

Dry hair is a source of discomfort for its owner. It’s hard to cope with them, especially after washing, and the appearance of such a head of hair will certainly not add to your attractiveness. To restore elasticity and radiance to your hair, you can start treatment with special moisturizing masks.

Causes of Dry Hair

Increased dry hair

Handling hair that is characterized by increased dryness and brittleness is very difficult. Each combing procedure turns into a test: in order to unravel the tassels and give the hair a decent look, you have to literally tear your hair out in buns, because of which they are damaged even more.

There is one way to break this vicious circle: to determine the cause of the problem and immediately begin to eliminate it in all possible ways. Factors contributing to the deterioration of the condition of the hair and leading to their increased dryness are classified according to two signs - external and internal.

External factors:

  • Exposure to ultraviolet radiation;
  • Exposure to too high or low temperatures (hot, hot air, frosty weather);
  • Low humidity;
  • Long exposure to chlorinated or seawater.

Eliminate the above factors or minimize their impact is possible due to increased hair care. Often precisely improper care causes increased dryness, namely:

  • Drying with a dryer in the intensive mode of blowing hot air;
  • Combing wet hair;
  • Frequent hair coloring
  • The use of devices for pulling, curling and straightening curls (iron, tongs, etc.);
  • Untimely shortening of split ends;

Internal causescausing hair structure degradation include:

  • Hormonal imbalance, dysfunction of the endocrine system of the body (especially malfunctions in the thyroid gland);
  • Vitamin deficiency, scurvy;
  • Side effect of chemotherapy
  • A number of serious autoimmune and other types of body diseases - HIV, iron deficiency and sickle cell anemia, chronic renal failure, tuberculosis infection, severe dystrophy, parasitic infestations;
  • Period of pregnancy;
  • Dysfunction of the digestive tract, intestinal dysbiosis;
  • Severe stress, neurosis, depression, disturbances in work and diseases of the central nervous system;
  • Nicotine abuse;
  • Consequences of the use of narcotic substances (methamphetamine, ecstasy, etc.);
  • Exposure to toxic substances (thallium, arsenic, ricin, etc.).

If the cause of the desiccation of the hair structure is not the presence of a serious illness, you can restore it by rationalizing your care and cosmetic procedures based on moisturizing masks.

Features of moisturizing masks

Moisturizing mask on the hair

Each cosmetic procedure carried out at home or in a salon has its own conditions for the proper conduct.If you ignore these rules, the applied mask will not bring the desired effect, since beneficial substances can not be transported to damaged areas of the hair and will not begin to moisturize them.

Consider the following features in the manufacture and use of moisturizing hair masks:

  • Unlike restoring or drying masks for falling out and oily hair, respectively, moisturizing compositions are applied only to clean washed hair. They should not be very wet or dry, slightly squeeze the hair through a towel. So the useful components of the mask will be absorbed faster and more intensively;
  • The moisturizing composition is distributed along the entire length of the hair, and not just the root zone or ends. For convenience, take a wooden or plastic comb with wide rounded teeth;
  • After applying the mask, always wrap your head in heat. So the thermal reaction will help to quickly activate the chemical processes for hair restoration;
  • The moisturizing mask lasts long enough, and this is its main feature. The standard procedure time is 1.5 - 2 hours;
  • Masks that moisturize hair are washed off only with warm water, which coincides with the normal temperature of the human body. If there is no oil in the composition, shampoo is optional;
  • If the hair is in a more or less satisfactory condition, a moisturizing mask is used once a week. For the treatment of extremely depleted, weakened hair with a dry structure, similar procedures are required every 3 to 4 days.

The most effective moisturizing mask recipes

Moisturizing Mask Recipes

Quickly moisturize dry hair at home using natural and inexpensive masks. They usually contain vegetable oils, food products (milk, kefir, mayonnaise, etc.), vegetables and fruits (avocado, pumpkin, banana, lemon juice, etc.).

You can also moisturize your hair not only with masks, but also with other means available for wide use. For example, if you add a spoonful of honey to the rinse or conditioner for rinsing, the hair will not get very tangled after drying, which will make it easier to comb and moisturize the curls.

Useful advice: when washing and then rinsing the head, use herbal decoctions, cooled and strained from the cake. The best herbs for dry hair are nettle, chamomile, burdock roots, calendula, horsetail. Decoctions on herbs reduce hair stratification and treat split ends.

After applying the mask for moisturizing, it is important not only to withstand it for the right amount of time, but also to properly wash off the composition. To do this, again, herbal infusions or acidified water with the addition of apple cider vinegar, tea leaves and aloe juice are used. Such rinses return shine to dry hair and help moisturize it.

Useful advice: when you add a few drops of essential oil (ylang-ylang, chamomile, geranium, myrtle, sandalwood, etc.) to the moisturizing mask, you significantly enhance the effect of the composition. Ether is also added to shampoo or hair conditioner.

Finding your perfect moisturizing hair mask the first time is not easy. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the most popular and effective folk cosmetic recipes that will help you properly moisturize your hair.

With kefir

Kefir mask

An excellent nourishing and moisturizing hair mask is prepared not only from yogurt, but also kefir, sour milk or yogurt. To make a dairy product better at home, but store products for these purposes are perfect.

An important condition: kefir for a mask is heated in a water bath so that the protein in its composition does not curl.

To do this, pour a little hot water in the saucer and put a glass of kefir in it, half full. 5-10 minutes is quite enough, after that, without adding any other components, apply warm kefir to wet clean hair. Keep the mask under a hat for 30 to 50 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

With banana

Banana mask

As part of the familiar exotic fruit with a delicate sweet taste is a whole pantry of nutrients. Banana is the champion among the "relatives" in the potassium content necessary for the normal production of keratin, which is responsible for the turgor of the hair structure.

Also, the fruit pulp contains other vitamins and minerals, including zinc, iron, magnesium, vitamins A and C. When preparing a banana moisturizing mask, we recommend adding almond oil with the ability to retain moisture well.

One small banana fruit will need a tablespoon of almond seed oil. Rub the mask until gruel and apply over the entire length of the hair. After 1 - 1.5 hours of keeping warm, rinse the composition with warm water without shampoo.

With honey and glycerin

Honey mask

One of the most versatile masks used in the treatment of dry hair. Honey is responsible for saturating the hair with useful substances and increases the regenerative abilities of the scalp, and glycerin smoothes the hair structure, “slamming” the scales, which, in the presence of dryness, do not fit tightly on it.

The glycerin in the recipe can be replaced with gelatin dissolved in water or burdock oil.

Mix two tablespoons of honey heated in a water bath with another selected component (1 tbsp.) And distribute through stroking hair through hair. The aging time of the mask is 40-60 minutes, a shampoo will be needed to wash off.

With avocado

Mask with avocado

Fatty oily flesh of avocado is an excellent component for a moisturizing mask. The fruit in large quantities contains trace elements and minerals - sodium, phosphorus, zinc, manganese, potassium, copper, etc., without which the structure and quality of hair will not be up to par.

The use of avocados as part of a moisturizing mask increases the regenerative functions of the scalp, strengthens the hair follicles and reduces the dryness of the scalp. Due to the content of fatty acids, the fruit increases the ability of hair cells to retain moisture, due to which turgor returns to them.

Hair masks with avocados have a different composition. For the first procedure, you can try a mask with honey, olive oil and peppermint essential oil. The last component will bring a feeling of chill and will have an additional stimulating effect.

One avocado fruit will require 20 g of honey, a quarter cup of olive oil and 5 to 10 drops of peppermint ether. The mask is applied to the hair in a heated form and is washed off after an hour with foamed shampoo and a copious amount of water.

Egg

Hair mask with egg

A mixture with the addition of raw egg yolk is perhaps the best moisturizing hair mask, prepared at home. The key component of such a mask is the egg, however, in addition to it, you can add products and substances to the composition, such as:

  • Gelatin;
  • Vegetable oil (sunflower, olive, burdock, rapeseed, coconut);
  • Kefir;
  • Ground cereal oatmeal;
  • Honey;
  • Pumpkin juice;
  • Aloe juice;
  • Oil solutions of vitamins A, E.

One of the simplest recipes for an egg mask also includes two tablespoons of castor oil. Before cooking, it is important to clean the yolk from the residues of raw protein: for this, it is decanted into a strainer or simply held in the palm of your hand and washed under a cold stream of water. If this is not done, the protein will curl up on the hair when heated, and it will be very difficult to remove it.

The finished mixture is applied to the hair, which is wrapped with plastic wrap and covered with a towel. After an hour, rinse off the mask and apply a nourishing balm to the ends if they split.

With oils

Cosmetic oil is the most natural product for moisturizing hair, which, moreover, is very inexpensive, which adds to its advantages over expensive salon products. To mix the mask, take a few cosmetic oils, namely:

  • Macadamia nut oil;
  • Shea Butter;
  • Castor
  • Jojoba;
  • Apricot, almond or grape seed oil;
  • Wheat germ oil.

Caution: mask oils are used preheated!

Select 3 - 4 components from the list below and, adding to them an ampoule of an oil solution of vitamin A and E, apply to clean hair. The mask is washed off after an hour, 3-4 shampoo rinses may be necessary.

With aloe juice

Aloe mask

At home, agave juice is widely used not only for medicinal, but also for cosmetic purposes. Aloe juice contains a lot of vitamin C, which is necessary for the vitality of hair, in addition, the plant has regenerative properties and restores the structure of the skin of the scalp.

To prepare a moisturizing mask you will need quite a bit of aloe juice - about 2 tablespoons. It is optionally combined with ingredients such as non-fat non-fat yogurt, honey, olive oil or egg yolk. Overdoing with the composition of the mask is not worth it, two ingredients are quite enough. The action of the moisturizing mask should last at least an hour, then it is washed off with water with a small amount of shampoo.

With gelatin

Matted hair
Gelatin is used for home lamination to straighten dry and tangled hair.

The most effective hair masks, moisturizing and nourishing, as a rule, contain glycerin, oils or gelatin. Yellowish, transparent, sticky substance hydrolyzed protein collagen processed from animal connective tissue, perfectly restores hair smoothness and shine. It is used as a universal component for lamination at home: gelatin has a “sealing” effect on delaminated hair flakes, filling it with an adhesive structure of microcracks and damage.

To prepare the mask, pour half a bag of dry gelatin powder in a saucer and pour cold water (a quarter cup). Leave the gelatin to swell for 15 - 40 minutes: it should increase significantly in volume.

A mixture of gelatin when soaking and heating produces a specific odor (this is the result of protein denaturation), but this phenomenon is quite normal. If you don't like the smell, add a couple drops of orange, peppermint, or patchouli essential oil to the mask.

Swollen gelatin is placed in a water bath and stirred until dissolved. Then remove it from the stove, apply to the hair along the entire length and hold for about an hour. Rinse off the mask with warm water.
